The E6B flight computer is an analog tool used by pilots to perform aviation calculations. It consists of two sides: the Calculator Side (circular slide rule) and the Wind Side.
Tips for Practicing
- Always align the rate index (60 or the triangle) with the speed when solving for time/distance.
- On the wind side, practice sliding the grommet over the wind dot — that’s where you read groundspeed and WCA.
- For density altitude and true airspeed (TAS) , use the top window on the calculator side.
- Do each problem twice: once with the E6B, once with an electronic flight computer (to verify).
