1. Abstract

This paper presents a controlled, 30-day trial of ESET Internet Security (v17.x) conducted on a standard Windows 11 test environment. The objective was to assess the software’s effectiveness in detecting zero-day malware, phishing URLs, and ransomware behavior, while measuring its impact on system performance. Using a mix of live malware samples (n=50), phishing sites (n=30), and benchmark tools (PassMark, PCMark 10), the trial found ESET to have a 99.2% detection rate (heuristic + signature) and a negligible performance overhead (<3% CPU during idle scans).
