Plot summary

While hiking alone in Bluejohn Canyon, canyoneer Aron Ralston becomes trapped when a dislodged boulder pins his right arm against the canyon wall. Over five days (approximately 127 hours), he endures dehydration, hunger, infection, and despair while attempting to free himself. He records video messages for his family, hallucinates interactions with friends and past lovers, and reflects on his life. After several failed escape attempts and the realization that rescue is unlikely, Ralston amputates his own forearm with a pocketknife, rappels down a 65-foot wall, hikes until he finds help, and is rescued. The film ends with archival footage and text about Ralston’s recovery and continued outdoor activities. 127 Hours (2010) - A Harrowing Survival Story "System
