1. Convert an image to B&W using Channel Mixer (not Desaturate). Push Red to 80%, Blue to 20%.
2. Duplicate the layer. On the top layer, use Threshold (Image > Adjustments > Threshold) to map the image to just black and white (no grey).
3. Reduce the opacity of the Threshold layer to 15%, set blend mode to Luminosity.
4. Result: You will see hard, graphic edges superimposed over natural greys. This forces the eye to see the structure of the light, not just the tone.
