Episodes 61–70: The Gambling Hall

Shakuni challenges Yudhishthir to a game of dice. Despite knowing it is evil, Yudhishthir cannot refuse a Kaurava’s invitation. One by one, he stakes and loses: his jewels, his army, his brothers, himself, and finally—Draupadi. Episode 68 is the most controversial. Duryodhan orders Dushasan to drag Draupadi by her hair into the court. Her saree is pulled. Episode 69 shows the miracle: Draupadi prays to Krishna, and the saree becomes an unending length. Dushasan collapses in exhaustion. But the damage is done. Bhima takes a terrible vow: “I will drink Dushasan’s blood and break Duryodhan’s thigh.” The Pandavas are sent to 13 years of exile: 12 in the forest, 1 incognito (Agyatvas). Episode 38 is a masterpiece of tension. The Pandavas, warned via a coded message from Vidura ("One who knows the timing of the fire, escapes"), set fire to the palace themselves, along with a Nishad woman and her five sons (who are mistaken for the Pandavas). The public believes the Pandavas are dead. The actual Pandavas escape through the tunnel and wander in the forest, eventually reaching Ekachakra Nagari. Here, Bhima famously kills the demon Bakasura, saving a Brahmin family in Episode 40. Yudhishthir (son of Dharma) Bhima (son of Vayu)
