Pixologic Zbrush Core Mini Fix

Introduction

The barrier to entry for 3D art has never been lower. You can export your creations as OBJ files ready for 3D printing pixologic zbrush core mini

in June 2020, it offered a streamlined, "clay-like" sculpting experience for free. ZBrushCentral Status Update: Discontinuation May 30, 2025 , ZBrushCoreMini has been placed into Limited Maintenance Mode by Maxon (which acquired Pixologic). 4. Five Tips for New Users

  1. Master the Tablet: ZBrush relies heavily on pen pressure. A mouse is usable, but a drawing tablet is essential for organic sculpting.
  2. Dynamics Matter: Be aware of your brush size and intensity (Z Intensity). A common mistake is using too much intensity, which destroys the volume of the model.
  3. Use "Lazy Mouse": If available or using a workaround, steady strokes are key for details. In Mini, focus on making smooth, confident strokes with the Standard brush.
  4. Symmetry: Always check symmetry (hotkey Y) before you start. It saves half the work.
  5. Don't Fight the Limitations: If you find yourself frustrated that you can't add eyes as separate objects or boolean subtract shapes, you have likely outgrown Mini. That is the signal to upgrade to ZBrushCore (paid) or the full ZBrush trial.

The Feature Set: Less is More

The philosophy behind Core Mini is accessibility. By removing the render settings, complex plugins, and technical pipelines, Pixologic created a sandbox that is immediately gratifying. Export OBJ/STL from File → Export for use

3. The 3D Printing Hobbyist (Miniatures)

This is the secret killer app for Core Mini. Because it exports STL files, you can sculpt your own D&D miniatures, keycaps, or jewelry pendants for free. The resolution is high enough for resin printing. I printed a goblin head sculpted entirely in Core Mini, and the layer lines were invisible under a coat of primer.

Step 4: Add Ears Select the Standard brush. At the side of the head, draw a semi-circle. Drag it out. Use the Inflate brush to puff it up. Use the Smooth brush to blend it into the head.

The Downside: You cannot control the subdivision manually. You also cannot use ZRemesher (the auto-retopology tool). This means your models will end up with messy wireframes that aren't suitable for animation. But for a static sculpt for 3D printing? It doesn't matter at all.
