If you work with Siemens Sinamics drives (G120, S120, G130, etc.), you know the drill. STARTER is the legacy, standalone engineering tool that, despite Siemens pushing TIA Portal hard, remains an absolute necessity for many legacy systems and quick drive commissioning.
Safety and Precautions
- Always follow safety guidelines when working with electrical equipment.
- Ensure you have a backup of your configurations before making changes.
- Use STARTER V5.4 or V5.5 – Supports Windows 10 and Windows 11, still free, and backward-compatible with most drives supported by V4.3. Download from SIOS.
- SINAMICS Startdrive – Integrated into TIA Portal V15 and above. Better for SINAMICS drives but does NOT support MASTERDRIVES or MICROMASTER 4.
- Virtual Machine (VM) Solution – Install Windows 7 on Oracle VM VirtualBox or VMware, then install STARTER V4.3 inside the VM. This is the most reliable way to run V4.3 on Windows 10/11 hardware.
