This paper utilizes the lattice dynamics frameworks established in standard solid-state texts to explore the existence of phononic band gaps in modified Diamond-Cubic (DC) lattices. By treating the crystal as a periodic mass-spring system, we demonstrate how local resonators—created by substituting heavy isotopes—can open band gaps at terahertz frequencies.
