Introduction

Trimmer head reloading (bump/auto-feed)

• Stop engine. Remove head cover per instructions, wind line evenly, follow directional arrows, secure ends. Replace cover.

Where to Find Replacement Parts for FS96

• Fuel type: Regular unleaded gasoline (minimum 89 octane, 10% ethanol max—though the manual predates E15, so avoid ethanol if possible).
• Oil type: Stihl HP (High-Performance) two-stroke oil or equivalent JASO FD certified oil.
• Mixing ratio: 50:1 (1 gallon of gas to 2.6 oz of oil).
• Storage: The manual states that fuel should not be stored longer than 30 days in the machine’s tank.

Spark plug

• Gap: typically 0.5–0.6 mm (0.020–0.024 in) — check engine plate/ manual.
• Replace with recommended NGK/BOSCH type per model.
