Lakshmi was born in Mumbai, India, to a Tamil family. She began her acting career as a child artist in the 1960s and made her debut as a lead actress in the 1970s. Her early years in cinema were marked by her stunning performances in films like "Thunivu" (1972) and "Udhayam NH4" (1973).
