On June 15, 2026, the main, freely available GenePattern server, cloud.genepattern.org, will be retired from service and all user data deleted. If you have any data you would like to retain, please download it before that date. This notice also applies to the GenePattern Notebook and g2nb applications.
If you would like to use any of the GenePattern analyses or run GenePattern locally, you can do any of the following:
Run GenePattern modules via an LLM. Use the local GenePattern runner utility https://github.com/genepattern/local_genepattern_runner_mcp to run analyses on your own computer without a GenePattern server. This supports running modules from a terminal window or installing a MCP server to allow your LLM (e.g. Claude Desktop) to run modules for you.
The GenePattern website, www.genepattern.org, will continue to be available.

Security and support trade-offs
If a lightweight Windows 10 variant is desired, it should be produced and maintained with three obligations: (1) preserve update/servicing compatibility so security fixes remain deliverable; (2) document changes and removed components transparently; (3) ensure licensing compliance and provide guidance for activation and deployment.
Enterprises should prefer officially supported options (e.g., Windows 10 LTSC, controlled feature updates via Windows Update for Business, or official component removal tools) over community forks. Individuals should weigh short-term performance gains against longer-term maintenance and security costs.
Reduced RAM Usage: A standard Windows 10 installation can consume 1.5GB to 2GB of RAM at idle. Lite versions often bring this down to 800MB–1.1GB, freeing up resources for applications.
Faster Boot Times: With fewer services launching at startup, the OS boots significantly faster than the stock version.
Disk Space: The installation footprint is much smaller. While a standard Windows folder can exceed 15GB, Lite versions often fit on smaller SSDs or USB drives.
Gaming Latency: By disabling background telemetry and non-essential services, CPU overhead is reduced, which can result in higher frame rates and lower input latency in games.
