The Meaning Beneath the Words

• Ya — O, a call of longing, address to the unseen.
• Syeda — Lady, mistress, a woman of noble lineage. In Shi’a and Sufi traditions, this often refers to Fatima al-Zahra (daughter of Prophet Muhammad), the embodiment of purity, suffering, and spiritual sovereignty. But more broadly, Syeda represents the feminine principle of divine compassion, the mother of the faithful, the one who carries the secret of creation.
• Shodai — A word that dances on the edge of meaning. Derived perhaps from shodā (intoxicated, mad with love) or linked to shūrīda (bewildered). In Persian and Urdu mystical poetry, shodai signifies a sacred drunkenness — not of wine, but of divine attraction. The lover loses their selfhood, their reason, their fear, and becomes mast (intoxicated) in the remembrance of the Beloved.
